The Icosavax preclinical development group is seeking a Senior Associate Scientist with a strong background in cell biology/molecular biology/biochemistry to take primary responsibility for all aspects of mammalian cell culture and support progress of our early-stage vaccine programs.
 
JOB DUTIES: 
·       Independently design and execute experimental protocols for the expression, purification, and analysis of recombinant proteins from mammalian and bacterial cells.
·       Primary responsibility for all aspects of mammalian cell culture, including media and buffer preparation, culture initiation, propagation, transfection and collection of supernatants, and cryopreservation of cells for ensuring consistency of cell culture materials and processes.
·       Preparation of cells to meet the demands of multiple concurrent projects that will require flexible work hours working in concert with project scientists.
·       Design, develop and implement analytical characterization methods to support expression (cell count, viability) and characterization (SDS-PAGE, BLI, ELISA, SEC HPLC, DLS) of protein antigens.
·       With direction from project scientist, independently perform basic laboratory duties, plan and conduct experiments, maintain best practices, write protocols for studies, and perform basic calculations and data analysis and organize results in a clear and logical format.
·       Follow standard protocols in the laboratory and adhere to all safety and company policies.
·       Communicate experimental findings in written and oral format to internal groups and project teams.  
·       Maintain complete and accurate electronic laboratory notebooks.
·       Identify and proactively communicate experimental study risks and provide mitigation, where possible.
·       Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors and demonstrate ability to work in a fast-faced matrix environment.
 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 
·       Bachelor’s degree in cell biology or molecular biology or biochemistry or related field is required.
·       8+ years industry/academic experience.
·       Proficient skills in standard (mammalian) cell culture procedures and associated aseptic techniques in addition to maintenance of tissue culture facilities.  
·       Knowledge and experience of cell culture analysis and analytical characterization techniques including SDS-PAGE, BLI, ELISA, SEC HPLC, DLS.
·       Strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills
·       Demonstrated trouble shooting ability and multi-tasking capabilities and ability to work in matrix project teams.
·       Ability to work independently, with limited direction from project scientist, in a fast-paced environment.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
·        Manual dexterity required to operate office and laboratory equipment.

·       Location: Fully onsite role in Seattle, WA
·       Must be eligible to work in the USA.
 
The salary range for this position is $105,000 – $115,000 per year; the base salary will be determined based on knowledge, skills, education, and experience relevant to the role.
